Ethical Breakdown
Do not go to this place JR is a professional BS'er. We hired him to rebuild a transmission and he was not successful with the rebuild and then attempted to create a distraction by saying an issue with the battery may be contributing to his failed rebuild. Do not trust his diagnostic equipment because it is rigged. He produced a volt meter and tried convincing me that while car running the car battery was showing volts moving between 12-15.5 volts. This was false, to JR's shock n surprise I immediately produced my volt meter, attached vehicle n showed the volts setting @ 14.43 continuously. I knew he was mistaken when he called and said the car had a electrical issue. New alternator, new starter, and battery all still under warranty, thats why I took my volt meter with me which revealed he was not mistaken but deceptive. He said his meter never failed until NOW, imagine how many times he has used that trick. Do Not waste your time and money at A1 Transmission with JR and Robert.

Dear Mr. Alonzo Sudler we regret to hear that you feel that you were not satisfied with our work. In reviewing your contract we must clarify the facts. You brought a Bench job: that is, you removed and diagnosed the problem, not us. The loose unit was checked by JR and you agreed to have it rebuilt. All electrical was left open since it is difficult to test a Jaguar unit out of the car. Then you had the transmission installed and later called JR that it was not working. He was trying to help you check the electrical, since almost every module( computer) had faults ( codes), some were about voltage. JR never said that the volt meter was wrong. He said that it was showing the voltage climbing from around 12 volts to over 15, which may cause some of those codes. Despite your claim about the volt meter, the real reason the transmission failed was that the unit was not installed properly and as a result broke the pump gears . Jr offered to replace the parts , that your installer broke, for a fee, but you refused. Alonzo the actual problem with the transmission is a mechanical failure due to improper installation and maybe electrical problems, neither is covered under the warranty. We are always open to help you. Blessing. Robert

Wouldn't take my cars anywhere else!
I have been a customer of this small neighborhood auto repair shop since the mid-1990's. I first took my car there when it stopped shifting...in the middle of an intersection in SW Houston. Well, my Dad, who was a mechanic in Victoria, TX, had always told me to never, ever! trust anyone but a transmission shop to work on my car's transmission. (You should always listen to your Dad!) I had never had a transmission problem before but remembered seeing 'A-! Transmission' for many years on a sign at Bissonnet/Chimney Rock . So, I had my non-shifting car towed to A-1. I handed them the keys and took a seat in the admittedly very small, drab waiting area. About 20 minutes later, JR (one of the owners/managers) handed me the keys and said "That will be $25.95. The linkage was disconnected." WOW!!! They could easily have charged me for a new transmission with lots of $$$ and days of wasted time. Instead, they got a customer for life! A-1 does body work, brakes, oil changes...you name it!..as well as transmission work and classic car restoration! They have performed all of the above for me and my family. You can't go wrong here!

Always a good experience!
Every time I go to A-1 American, as I have been doing for almost 20 years, I, as well as my car, have received complete attention and patient, clear explanations of everything that was going on, or was being considered as one of ways that a situation could be handled. I have never felt "left out" of the project, or that I was simply asked to sign something when I didn't understand what was going on. My cars along the way have all done well after being examined and treated at A-1 American. I guess it sounds like medical treatment, but as a former nurse, that's how I can best express it!
