Poor follow up- takes your money and cuts off communication
Paid over $10k for a fence. Used non galvanized nails and 30 days later they are staining my new fence. Needed gate repair and Chad showed up only to leave the gate inoperable and rigged to keep it shut with boards and cinder blocks. Refuses to return phone calls, emails or text messages. Very poor communicator, poor follow thru and poor follow up. Also over charged $650 compared to the bid, my inoperable gate still has no wheels and no gate hardware.

5/13/18 To Whom It May Concern, This letter is in response to the complaint issued by Holly and Russell Sterkel. First, we would like to recognize their frustrations and concerns. It is our hope to come to an agreeable resolution for both parties. This is the second project that we completed for them and hope to reach an agreement where the customers are not disgruntled with our company for any reason. The homeowners were moving in as we were completing the install and upon completion of the fence. They had many opportunities to voice any concerns that they may have had during that time. The gate hardware and drop rod were originally installed properly. Holly and Russell walked the job and were happy with the original installation of their fence. This is evident in their willingness to pay upon completion. Russell was aware the gate roller wouldn’t be installed that evening and stated he didn’t feel they needed it. In an email following the completion of the fence the homeowner states, “Chad said you could email us some stain/protectant options for our new fence. LOVE THE FENCE, by the way!!” This sentiment contradicts the statement in the complaint, “Not happy with the shoddy end result.” Additionally, we offered to lend our paint sprayer to the Sterkel’s so they could stain their fence. This was also referenced in an email, “He also said we could borrow his sprayer.” These are examples that show we had good rapport with the customers prior to the need for the gate repair. After completing the job one of their dogs broke through the gate requiring the gate to be repaired. This is where we feel the communication and relationship broke down. This is a busy time of year for us. We don’t feel that the customer understood that the repair would need to be put on the schedule behind other jobs that were occurring. Because the damage from their dog occurred shortly after the fence was completed, the customers expected us to be able to repair it right away. Chad wanted to get the repair done for them. But was difficult to do as quickly as they were wanting with new work, delays due to weather, and being short handed. Chad did go by their home one evening with the materials he thought he needed based on a conversation he had with Russell. Unfortunately, the items weren’t all that were necessary to complete the repair that night. From then on communications from the Sterkel’s, especially in the form of text messages got ugly and made us feel that they didn’t want us on their property. From that point we ceased communication with them, as their tone had changed drastically. Additionally, the homeowners claim that non-galvanized nails were used on their fence. We have been in and around the fence business for over 20 years and understand the need to use galvanized nails. It is our practice to use 3-3 ¼” galvanized ring-shank nails. We used the same nails we use on all of our other projects on theirs. There would be no reason for us to use anything different than galvanized nails. We feel that the dissatisfaction from the homeowner stems from the repair created by their dog, not the final outcome of the original work. As mentioned, we would like to do what we can to remedy the situation. If the customers are agreeable we would like to complete the gate repair, which would include installing the wheel (if they have decided they would prefer to have it) and the post repair. Next day service, perfect fix!
Just a quick shout out to thank Chad at ALPHA FENCE AND DECK COMPANY in Johnstown. The latch on our gate become completely inoperable on Monday night, and by Tuesday afternoon it was replaced and perfect! Thanks Chad! I appreciate your speedy, professional service and will gladly recommend this local fence company to everyone!

I had Alpha Fence and Deck do some work for me when I moved to Johnstown. I was very pleased with their attention to detail. The fence and gates were, and still are, perfectly aligned. They power-blasted all of the white paint off of my deck and restored it to the natural wood tones that I love. I highly recommend Alpha Paint and Deck!!!

Replacement of Fence
Removed 400 ft of split rail fence, set in concrete, and installed a new 3 rail, ranch type fence (400 ft) with two gates. Job cost was a little below $5000.00. Work performed in late Aug 2014. His workers were excellent; worked fast but were thorough and concerned that we were satisfied with the job. Tearing out the old fence was very laborious but they had it out and cleaned up in less than two days. They did not always show up as scheduled although I usually (not every time) got a call and sometimes they were difficult to reach but did always return my calls eventually. I could forgive all this because of the quality of the work and the price. His bid was well below the other two that I received from well known/highly advertised fence contractors. Beautiful job.
