Poor workmanship and absolutely NO SUPERVISION equals a crap roofing job
. I contracted Chad for our residential roofing to be replaced in early August 2018. The job entailed replacing the roof of both the house and the garage. Work began on the of 2nd of August and was "completed" on the 3rd. With the exception of the first morning when Chad and his two workers arrived, Chad was never seen again on the site. The workers were on their own. I was at home over lunch on the second day, the workers had left for lunch, so I took the opportunity to get up on the garage roof, which had been stripped of the old roof. The plywood sheathing was in excellent condition, but the boards along the lower edge of the roof were dry rotted and crumbling. I knew I would be paying a bit extra to have these replaced as was stated in the contract, that was fair enough. However, when I came home that evening I found that the rotted wood was not replaced but that the workers has nailed the shingles right over the rotted boards. The workers were gone. I noticed some debris sticking out of the eave troughs, got up and took a look only to find the troughs of the garage were full of wet shingle bits, nails and dirt. So, I spent 21/2 hours cleaning out all of that heavy muck. Finally, I climbed up my ladder to take a look over the roof of the house. The very first thing I saw were brand new nail heads that were driven right through fully exposed shingles! I also spotted other nails peeking out from under the overlap of other shingles. Also, the vents were all nailed across the bottom, 4 nails each, all exposed to the elements. I called Chad the following morning and explained what my problems were. We never saw or heard from him. We then left for our pre-planned two week vacation in mid-August. When we got back we waited a few more days after which I emailed Chad. I complained that there were still unresolved issues with the work on the roof of the garage and house. He replied that he had sent someone over and that they found that the eave troughs were clean( because I had cleaned them). Chad had not even addressed the other issues that I had told him by phone, earlier. Finally, on the 30th of August, Chad came by while I was at work. He talked to my wife, who reiterated our problems and he then climbed up onto the house roof. His solution for the exposed nails was to patch them with tar. My wife also mentioned that the workers had placed shingles over rotten wood on the garage. Chad got up on the garage roof, patched a few more exposed nails with tar and walked onto the area in question with the rotten wood, declaring that it should be OK. Note that this bit of action by Chad took almost a full month to happen. Too bad Chad never thought to stop by once in a while and supervise the workers, he would have seen the wood was rotted and he hopefully would have advised his workers to replace it before laying down a new roof over top of it. Subsequently, I paid Chad in full, declared the work as not completed and fired him. I will have to deal with this garbage myself as I have learned over time it is not worth dealing with outfits such as CK Roofing and Insulation. My advice to anyone is to pay attention to what is going on and at the very least GET UP ONTO YOUR ROOF after the work is done and INSPECT IT. Don't just say he did a wonderful job by simply looking a
