Seek real medical doctors
I was a patient at the Root Cause Clinic over a year ago. My first appointment with Dr. Peterson was spent listening to his hour long speech about gluten, despite the fact that I hadn't eaten gluten in two years. The second appointment I brought a family member and i was surprised to hear the same exact speech, almost word for word. These are expensive appointments, and he fills up the time talking about the only thing he knows, despite the wide variety of "root causes" there may be. He did, however, also go over some blood work he an ordered, most notably my full cholesterol panel. At the time I knew nothing of cholesterol, so I trusted him when he said my high total and LDL was probably just familial and nothing to worry about (I come back to this later). During that appointment I also told him I had a fever. He didn't even bother to check my temperature. Turned out I had pneumonia, and later landed up in urgent care and the ER. That was the last time I went to the clinic. A year later I am now seeing other doctors and specialists. While trying to piece together my health issues, it was discovered I have high cholesterol by my PCP and it's something that I need to monitor. I had remembered what Dr. Peterson said about my cholesterol, and I went thorugh my files to find my old results from the clinic. I was shocked to see that my cholesterol then, while seeing Dr. Peterson at the clinic, was nearly twice as high. Different doctors will tell you different things about the numbers, but my numbers were so dangerously high it put me at risk for a stroke and I should have been put on medication. My neurologist even screened me for a stroke (based on my symptoms and the high markers). Just to be clear, my total cholesterol was 308. If you know anything about cholesterol, this is not something that should have been dismissed. I went back and forth trying to decide if I should contact Root Cause. I finally decided I needed to say something to ensure they don't ignore something like this in the future. i called and left a message with the front desk. I asked for a return call and never heard from them again. There were so many red flags from the very beginning. Root Cause did claim they can treat other things besides gluten intolerances, but nothing they said or tried to test me for led me to believe otherwise. If you're sick and really need answers, this is a waste of time. Get real medical help. Make sure your basis are covered with real doctors, not just chiropractors and nutritionists. As for the one medical doctor here, I hope this doctor reads this because I don't believe they review the test results, and maybe they should be more careful. As for the claim that if you aren't getting better at Root Cause because you aren't trying hard enough on the diet. My diet was absolutely pristine for two years straight, no cheating once. We even skipped the nutrition part of the appointments, because Dr Peterson had no recommendation for any changes in my diet because I was already doing what they would have recommended. By the way, I unknowingly brought my cholesterol down by almost half by eating a more varied diet. Oh, and I started eating gluten again, my digestion hasn't been this good in years. There was obviously more going on with me than a gluten intolerance, which I didn't even have. Do not go here, especially if you are desperate for answers. I don't believe their success rate is 85%, which is what they claim. They knew very little about many of the things I was suffering with. You can tell with one appointment with Dr. Peterson that not only did he have very limited knowledge, but that he is just regurgitating the same speech to every patient. Seek help elsewhere.
