Our experience with Ace Handyman Services of East Valley started well enough. We contacted them and arranged for someone to come over and give us a quote on May 25th on adding two sets of walls in our house - one to separate our bedroom from our living room (it had been knocked out to make the living room larger before we bought the house) and one to wall off our den. Their agent came by and for $75 gave us a quote of roughly 10 to 12 hours, and when we spoke with Vicky in their office we were told that with the supplies for all work it should be less than $3000 (but that it was of course an estimate). They scheduled two workers to come the next Friday and we assumed everything was good to go. The first sign of trouble was when Vicky had to call us back and let us know that they had not scheduled enough time to get the work done in that day. They scheduled in for Friday but needed another day to ensure the work got done, and being that they don't work on the weekends that they could start Friday and then come back a week later. We expressed concern over the room being down from Friday until into the next week, and decided to push the job back to Wednesday / Thursday of the next week for that reason. In that time we decided we didn't want the second wall, and again, being that we had the estimate split into two estimated (per wall) we did not think this would be an issue. We both agreed that due to the lack of a second wall that we would perhaps save up to three hours on the job which sounded fine by us. We got an updated materials list and purchased them for pickup on June 8th by the handymen employed by Ace. The first day was fine, they got up the walls and roughed in some electrical plugs as we requested. I was told that could add several hours to the job to do (which seems like an overestimate, by I tried not to argue) but I figured we'd saved several hours by not adding the extra wall so it should even out. During this day the handymen forgot to put in some wood as planned for one of the walls and when we asked they said "Oh I thought you didn't want to do that?" despite the fact that we had mentioned it just that morning. That was frustrating but if it was all we had experienced we wouldn't have said anything. Cut to the next day, only one of the workers came to do the work of hanging a door and adding texture to the newly put up walls. We had recently painted our walls so we asked if we should put down any plastic to the walls to protect them or cover our couch. The worker said no, as he had drop cloths he could put on the couch and that the texturizing shouldn't spread out to the walls as he had a smaller spray can to avoid going onto the newly painted walls. Well two things happened - One: He apparently dropped the spray can and sprayed our couch and rug down with texturizer (of which Ace paid someone to clean) & Two: He sprayed well over two feet onto our walls with additional texture, which they tell us can be wiped down and fixed but was not able to be done so easily due to the wall already having texture to it. Additionally in the time he was given he did not even have time to hang our door or clean up after himself. Finally, the quality of the work was going to need additional fixing. The corners needed sanding, the edge work at the ceiling needed help, there was a mess everywhere and on every light switch and tile nearby, not to mention he still needed to grout and lay our tile baseboards. So at this point we are beyond frustrated. We are told he can "fix all this" when he comes back but he has a total of three hours remaining to do all of the above work and clean up. With the messiness of the texturizing too we did not feel that the grouting would be done well and overall we were very unsatisfied with the quality of the work received. From the start of this we expressed that we went with Ace because we felt the quality would be better than just finding someone on Task Rabbit. That has not been the case and we have decided to cut our losses with Ace and find someone else to finish the work.
